The Consumer Product Safety Commission on Dec. 12 unanimously approved its Fiscal Year 2015 Operating Plan, with an amendment that budgets agency resources toward improving its portion of CBP’s Trusted Trader program. The amendment devotes three full-time staff to work with industry in order to develop new incentives for participation in the product safety component of Trusted Trader. During a Dec. 3 hearing on the Operating Plan, CPSC Director of Import Surveillance Carol Cave had said CBP’s call for participants in the Trusted Trader pilot did not prompt any applications for the product safety component (see 1412030050). CPSC’s draft operating plan had included an inquiry as to why it got so little interest, but didn’t devote any resources to the effort. Other amendments agreed in the final FY 2015 Operating Plan include funding for test burden reduction and a review of fireworks safety standards.
