Trump Expresses Willingness to Give UK 'Little Better Deal'

President Donald Trump, speaking to reporters just ahead of a visit to King Charles III in England, said the U.K. government would like to "refine the trade deal a little bit ... I'm into helping them." He added, "They'd like to see if they can get a little bit better deal, so we'll talk to them."

One of the unresolved issues for British trade negotiators is the status of goods covered by Section 232 tariffs on steel and aluminum. While the U.K. has more generous treatment than any other country, with a 25% rate, the U.K. would like to have a portion of its metal exports enter under most favored nation rates, through a tariff rate quota system.

Trump also was asked about his recent comments that he is waiting for Europeans to act before tightening economic screws on Russia.

"They're purchasing Russian oil. I don't want them purchasing Russian oil. They've got to stop immediately," Trump said. "I want that war to stop."
