China Objects to New BIS Entity Listings

Beijing criticized the Bureau of Industry and Security's decision last week to add a range of Chinese entities to the Entity List (see 2509120077), saying the U.S. has "generalized national security and abused export controls to impose sanctions on numerous Chinese entities in sectors such as semiconductors, biotechnology, aerospace, and trade and logistics."

The Ministry of Commerce also questioned the reason for the new export controls ahead of the two sides' trade talks in Spain.

"Starting September 14, China and the United States will hold economic and trade talks in Spain. What is the US's intention in imposing sanctions on Chinese companies at this time?" a ministry spokesperson said, responding to a reporter's question at a regular press conference, according to an unofficial translation. "China urges the US to immediately correct its erroneous practices and cease its unwarranted suppression of Chinese companies. China will take necessary measures to resolutely safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese companies."
