CPSC Names Peter Feldman Acting Chairman
The Consumer Product Safety Commission has named Commissioner Peter A. Feldman acting chairman of the agency, effective immediately. Past CPSC chair and President Joe Biden appointee Alex Hoehn-Saric stepped down as chair on Jan. 21.
Feldman has served on the commission since Oct. 5, 2018, following his nomination by President Donald Trump. According to a Jan. 22 CPSC release, Feldman "focused [his] attention on the flood of Chinese consumer goods that violate federal law and has worked to strengthen the agency’s ability to address the challenges of the modern marketplace."
Feldman previously served as senior counsel to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, of which South Dakota Republican Sen. John Thune served as committee chair. Through that role, Feldman was involved in drafting and negotiating bipartisan legislation and conducting oversight and investigations of CPSC and the Federal Trade Commission.
