Sánchez New Ranking Member of Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee
Rep. Linda Sánchez, D-Calif., who joined the House Ways and Means Trade Subcommittee in 2021, is the new ranking member, following Rep. Earl Blumenauer's retirement.
Sánchez is a former labor lawyer and union member, and, during a 2023 hearing with the U.S. trade representative, she asked if the USTR would reopen the Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement, as the previous administration did with NAFTA, because labor rights are not being honored. She also listed a bill on enhanced customs enforcement as one of her proudest accomplishments.
Sánchez has been in Congress since 2003, and describes herself in her biography as a lifelong progressive. She is the sixth of seven children of immigrant parents from Mexico. Her father worked at a plastics and rubber plant, and her mother was an elementary school teacher.
