EU, Taiwan Settle WTO Dispute on Taiwan's Offshore Wind Auctions

The EU and Taiwan settled the EU's dispute at the World Trade Organization on Taiwan's offshore wind auctions, the bloc's Directorate-General for Trade announced Nov. 8. The EU said Taiwan committed to "introducing greater flexibility in the way the winning projects from the latest auction are taken forward."

The EU opened the dispute in July to contest Taiwan's domestic content requirements in its offshore wind auctions, claiming that the measures damage the transition to green energy (see 2407310009).

The Directorate-General for Trade said Taiwan's new flexibility in its auction process will address "past implementation difficulties faced by offshore wind developers." It added it "will continue to work with Taiwan to ensure that the agreed way forward is fully implemented."
