Man Seeks Nearly $20K in Drawback for Luxury Vehicle Import

Individual importer Timothy Brown filed a complaint on Oct. 31 at the Court of International Trade seeking nearly $20,000 in duty drawback related to the shipment of a Porsch 911 Turbo S luxury vehicle. Brown said he in 2017 imported the vehicle, which was classified under Harmonized Tariff Schedule subheading 8703.24.0190, dutiable at 2.5% (Timothy Brown v. United States, CIT # 20-03733).

The car was undrivable and was thus manually pushed to the forwarder's facility then reloaded for delivery to Brown. Once at Brown's farm, the car was later reloaded and sent back to the carrier for export, changing the car's odometer from 60 miles to 61 miles, the complaint said.

In 2018, the car was exported from the U.S. and Brown filed a drawback entry seeking $19,970.77 in total drawback. The claim was denied. In his complaint, Brown said he "fulfilled all statutory and regulatory requirements" for drawback.
