Amendment to Allow CBP Info Sharing on Counterfeits Part of NDAA Package

An effort to change CBP rules to allow more information sharing on counterfeits with rights holders has been attached to the must-pass National Defense Authorization Act, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, said this week.

The bipartisan amendment, co-sponsored by Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., is a continuation of efforts Grassley has been making for three years (see 2104160033).

"Our bipartisan bill establishes a straightforward approach to cut back on counterfeits by boosting information sharing between CBP, rights holders and commerce professionals," Grassley said in the news release.

Many of the same trade groups that are advocating for the Shop Safe Act also support this change in law, as does the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
