BIS Seeks Comments on Export-Related Information Collection

The Bureau of Industry and Security is seeking public comments on two export-related information collections, it said in notices this week.

One collection involves the Chemical Weapons Convention provisions in the Export Administration Regulations. The collection describes the purpose of the CWC, U.S. reporting obligations and information on certain end-use certificates. Comments are due Oct. 28.

Another collection involves two “rarely used” short supply activities: "Registration of U.S. Agricultural Commodities for Exemption from Short Supply Limitations on Export (USAG)" and "Petitions for the Imposition of Monitoring or Controls on Recyclable Metallic Materials; Public Hearings (Petitions)." Under the EAR, U.S. agricultural goods purchased by a foreign country and stored in the U.S. for export at a later date may voluntarily be registered with BIS “for exemption from any quantitative limitations on export that may subsequently be imposed under the EAR for reasons of short supply,” the agency said. BIS previously requested comments on the collection in April and is now allowing for another 30 days of feedback.
