State Dept. Outlines Recent Sanctions Efforts Against Hezbollah Financing
The Biden administration has targeted financial networks that support Hezbollah by conducting five rounds of sanctions against 21 people since October 2023, a State Department spokesperson said Aug. 8.
“These actions have targeted money laundering, sanctions evasion, revenue generation, and other illicit activities,” the spokesperson said in an e-mail. “We will continue our efforts to root out networks that would abuse the U.S. and international financial systems to fund and engage in terrorism."
The administration also urges other countries to sanction Hezbollah, the spokesperson added.
The comments came three days after a bipartisan group of 46 House members sent a letter urging the administration to fully use “all tools at its disposal,” including sanctions, to crack down on Hezbollah’s international financing network (see 2408070021).
