House Panel Reschedules Markup of AI Export Control Bill

The House Foreign Affairs Committee this week plans to mark up a bill that is intended to help the Bureau of Industry and Security control exports of artificial intelligence systems and other new national security-related technologies (see 2405100063).

The panel had been scheduled to consider the legislation last week but postponed the session to incorporate undisclosed changes resulting from negotiations with the Biden administration, a committee spokesperson said.

The committee also intends to take up a bill that would require the president to notify Congress before pausing arms deliveries to Israel. The legislation would give lawmakers an opportunity to vote on a resolution to block a proposed suspension. The House narrowly passed a bill last week that would require the administration to stop holding up shipments of approved offensive weapons to Israel (see 2405160078).
