China Adds Boeing Unit, 2 Others to Unreliable Entity List

China added three U.S. defense companies, including a business unit of Boeing, to its Unreliable Entity List for arms sales to Taiwan, the country’s Ministry of Commerce announced May 20. The agency said it added Boeing’s Defense, Space & Security unit, General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, and General Dynamics Land Systems to the list, prohibiting them from participating in “import and export activities related to China” and subjecting them to other restrictions, according to an unofficial translation.

In the notice for Boeing, China said it’s issuing a fine against the company for “twice the amount of the arms sales” it has supplied to Taiwan. The company “shall make payment in accordance with relevant laws and regulations within 15 days from the date of this announcement,” the ministry said, or it will face more fines.

Spokespeople for the three companies didn’t respond to requests for comment.

China’s announcement came about a month after it sanctioned General Atomics Aeronautical Systems and General Dynamics Land Systems under the country’s anti-foreign sanctions law for arms sales to Taiwan (see 2404120011). China last year added U.S. defense companies Lockheed Martin and Raytheon to the Unreliable Entity List, also for arms sales to Taiwan (see 2304180029 and 2302160064).
