WTO Elects New Chair of Tech Trade, Transfer Working Group

World Trade Organization members of the Working Group on Trade and Transfer of Technology elected Lithuania's Raimondas Alisauskas the 2024 chair of the group and granted the World Intellectual Property Organization "observer status," the WTO announced.

During the May 15 meeting, participating members also discussed two proposals, one from India and the other from the African group, on themes the working group could "prioritize" to boost technology flows to developing nations. The proposals included topics such as "leveraging technologies for facilitating trade, enhancing agricultural productivity and resilience, and promoting environmentally sound technologies to address climate change," the WTO said.

The next meeting is set for July 11.
