China Select Committee Sends Delegation to Taiwan

Five members of the House Select Committee on China are visiting Taiwan Feb. 22-24 to show support for the democratic country and discuss trade and investment, regional security and other issues with senior Taiwanese leaders and members of civil society, the committee said.

The committee tweeted Feb. 22 that the lawmakers met with President Tsai Ing-wen, President-elect Lai Ching-te and Foreign Minister Joseph Wu. "The two sides discussed strengthening U.S.-Taiwan ties as [Chinese Communist Party] aggression continues to grow," the committee said.

The delegation consists of Reps. Mike Gallagher, R-Wis., and Raja Krishnamoorthi, D-Ill., the committee’s chairman and ranking member, respectively, and Reps. Dusty Johnson, R-S.D., John Moolenaar, R-Mich., and Seth Moulton, D-Mass.

In a report released in December, the committee called on Congress to require the Biden administration to impose sanctions on China if it invades Taiwan (see 2312120050).
