USTR Asks for Investigation of Mexican Call Center

For the second time, the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative asked the Mexican government to investigate whether service center workers were being denied their right to form a union, under the rapid response labor mechanism in the USMCA.

The administration alleges that managers at a call center run by Atento Servicios in Hidalgo state were retaliated against for their union activities. The call center serves BBVA Mexico, a Mexican bank.

The U.S. received a petition from the Sindicato de Telefonistas de la Republica Mexicana (STRM) in mid-December that "alleged that Atento interfered in union activities and unjustly dismissed workers for supporting STRM and as a retaliatory measure for engaging in organizing efforts."
