Census Offers Tips for Recent Warning, Verify Codes in AES
The Census Bureau emailed tips this week on how to address the most frequent messages generated this month in the Automated Export System.
Response code 341 is a warning for when incomplete ultimate consignee information may have been declared on an Electronic Export Information filing. Census said incomplete ultimate consignee information may be declared when a "To Be Sold en Route" declaration has been made, but "the actual Ultimate Consignee must be declared within 4 days of the Estimated Departure Date." The filer should verify the "To Be Sold en Route" indicator, correct the shipment and resubmit.
Response code 8VW is a code that asks the filer to verify the reported Schedule B/Harmonized Tariff Schedule Number because the value of the goods and shipping weight ratio is "outside of the expected range." For certain items, Census said the value of goods divided by the shipping weight "should fall within a certain parameter based on historical statistical averages for that commodity," and ratios "outside this pre-determined parameter might indicate either a keying error or misclassification of the product." The filer should verify the value of goods, shipping weight and Schedule B/HTS Number, correct the shipment and resubmit, if necessary. If the item is verified correct as reported, no action is necessary.
