CPSC Allows More Comments on New Safety Standard for Residential Gas Furnaces, Boilers

The Consumer Product Safety Commission will allow more time for comments on its proposed safety standard on residential gas furnaces and boilers, the agency said in a notice Dec. 11. The October proposed rule would require the appliances to monitor carbon dioxide levels and modulate or cut off combustion if they get too high, and also would set testing and performance requirements for residential gas furnaces and boilers (see 2310260015). The proposed requirements would take effect 18 months after publication of a final rule establishing the standard. Comments are now due Jan. 25.
