Liquidation Suspended for Autoliv Steering Wheels From El Marqués

The U.S. has asked Mexico to investigate whether there were coercive statements that interfered with worker rights at the Autoliv Steering Wheels Mexico facility in El Marqués. The U.S. also alleges there were workers fired in retaliation for union activity, and that union organizers weren't given access to the factory.

“The rights of workers to freely choose a union and collectively bargain are cornerstones of union democracy. We will continue to monitor to ensure that employers do not interfere with those rights or retaliate against workers for exercising them,” Labor Department Deputy Undersecretary for International Affairs Thea Lee said in a news release announcing the rapid response mechanism request.

Liquidation is suspended for goods from Autoliv Steering Wheels' factory in El Marqués.

Neither the Swedish company that owns the factory nor Mexico's Economy Secretariat put out a news release in response to the rapid response mechanism.

The vast majority of the rapid response mechanism complaints have been in the auto sector. None has resulted in a suspension of tariff benefits under USMCA.
