EU Reappoints 2 ECJ Judges, 1 Advocate General
The European Council reappointed two judges and an advocate-general for terms running Oct. 7, 2024, to Oct. 6, 2030. Constantinos Lycourgos and Jan Passer were reappointed judges and Giovanni Pitruzzella advocate-general as part of the "partial renewal of the composition of the Court of Justice in 2024," the council said.
Pitruzzella has been in his role since 2018. Previously, he served as chairman of the Italian Competition Authority from 2011 to 2018 and a law professor in Italy since 1994.
Passer is from Czechia and was first tapped to serve as a judge in October 2020. He previously was a member of the Tribunal of the European Court of Justice for the Czech Republic, starting in 2016. Lycourgos is from Cyprus and was first appointed a judge in 2014. Before joining the court, he headed the EU Law Section of Cyprus' Law Office from 2003 to 2014.
