FTC Moves for Stay as It Reviews Settlement in Chargeback Dispute Case

The FTC and the Florida Department of Legal Affairs moved the court to stay further proceedings and deadlines in a fraud case against Global E-Trading, Gary Cardone and Monica Eaton for 45 days to allow the FTC to review a proposed settlement, said their Tuesday unopposed motion (docket 8:23-cv-00796) in U.S. District Court for Middle Florida in Tampa. The parties devoted “considerable resources to resolving this matter without the need for further litigation,” said the motion. The stay would allow the parties to postpone a court-ordered mediation scheduled for Nov. 8 and preserve parties’ and the mediator’s time and resources, it said. The April complaint alleges Cardone and Eaton, owners of Global E-Trading, doing business as Chargebacks911, used “multiple unfair techniques” to prevent consumers from winning chargeback disputes over unwanted, fraudulent or incorrect credit card charges (see 2304130013).
