OFAC Sanctions Former Sudan Official, Companies
The Office of Foreign Assets Control this week sanctioned two entities and one person for “undermining the peace, security, and stability” of Sudan.
The designations target Ali Karti, the former foreign affairs minister under former President Omar al-Bashir, who was ousted in 2019. After the fall of the Bashir government, Karti became the leader of the Sudanese Islamic Movement (SIM) and led efforts to “derail Sudan’s progress toward a full democratic transition,” OFAC said.
The agency also sanctioned GSK Advance Company Ltd, a Sudan-based information technology and security company overseen by members of the Sudanese security forces, and Aviatrade LLC, a Russia-based military supply company, which worked with GSK to supply parts, supplies and training for unmanned aerial vehicles previously bought by the security forces.
