BIS Denies Export Privileges for Illegal Defense Shipments
The Bureau of Industry and Security recently revoked export privileges for two people after they illegally exported controlled items from the U.S.
BIS said Michael Justin Huynh of California was convicted Sept. 3, 2019, of exporting and attempting to export16 AK-type semiautomatic rifles and three .50 caliber semiautomatic rifles to Mexico. Huynh was sentenced to 63 months in prison with credit for time served, three years of supervised release, and a $100 court assessment. BIS denied Huynh’s export privileges for 10 years from the date of conviction.
Nicolas Armando Quintana-Saenz of Mexico was convicted June 2, 2020, of intending to export 3,860 rounds of ammunition of various calibers. Quintana-Saenz was sentenced to 46 months in prison, with credit for time served, three years of supervised release, and a $100 court assessment. BIS denied Quintana-Saenz’s export privileges for nine years from the date of conviction.
