EU Appoints 7 Judges to EU General Court
The EU appointed one new judge, reappointed four and filled two vacancies, the European Council announced June 29.
Steven Verschuur of the Netherlands will serve his first term on the General Court, while Judges Marc Jaeger and Dean Spielmann of Luxembourg and Mirela Stancu and Ion Galea of Romania were reappointed to that court. All five are serving terms that will begin Sept. 1 and end Aug. 31, 2028, as part of the partial renewal of the 26-judge General Court that takes place in 2022, the council said.
Slovakia's Beatrix Ricziova was appointed to the General Court from the "date of entry into force of the appointing Decision" until Aug. 31, the council said. The appointment was made to fill a vacant post after the partial renewal of the General Court of 2016. Tihamer Toth of Hungary was appointed, also until Aug. 31, to fill the remainder of Barna Berke's term. Berke died last year.
