Magnus Confirmed as CBP Commissioner

The Senate confirmed Tucson, Arizona, Police Chief Chris Magnus as CBP commissioner on a vote of 50-47 on Dec. 7. Sen. Susan Collins of Maine was the only Republican to vote for him. The agency hasn't had a confirmed leader since 2019.

The National Customs Brokers & Forwarders or America applauded Magnus' confirmation, in an emailed statement. “We have enjoyed getting to know Mr. Magnus over the last year and are delighted that CBP, once again, has a confirmed commissioner,” NCBFAA President Jan Fields said. “We look forward to partnering with Commissioner Magnus and his team to achieve an appropriate balance between facilitation that enhances our country’s economic and financial strength and enforcement that guards against threats to our personal and collective health, safety, and security.”

Acting CBP commissioner Troy Miller said in a Dec. 8 tweet, "Acting Deputy Commissioner Huffman and I are proud to share the news with you that the Senate voted today to confirm Chief Chris Magnus as the Commissioner of @CBP. He has a strong grasp on the important work CBP does every single day and I look forward to working alongside him."
