DOD Adds to List of Companies With Ties to Chinese Military

The Defense Department on Jan. 14 released another list of Chinese companies with ties to the country’s military. The latest tranche includes nine companies, including businesses operating in the semiconductor, technology and aviation sectors. The companies will be subject to certain investment bans under an executive order President Donald Trump issued in November (see 2011130026). The latest list follows the release of several similar lists last year (see 2008300001, 2006250024 and 2012040008).

China's Foreign Ministry criticized the move, saying Jan. 15 the investment ban “violates the principles of market competition and international economic and trade rules.” China's Commerce Ministry urged the U.S. to “withdraw the above decision and create a good environment for the normal economic and trade cooperation between the enterprises of the two countries,” it said Jan. 15 statement, according to an unofficial translation.

The companies are:

• Luokong Technology Corp. (LKCO)
• Xiaomi Corp.
• Beijing Zhongguancun Development Investment Center
• GOWIN Semiconductor Corp.
• Grand China Air Co. Ltd. (GCAC)
• Global Tone Communication Technology Co. Ltd. (GTCOM)
• China National Aviation Holding Co. Ltd. (CNAH)
• Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China, Ltd. (COMAC).
