EU Council Announces Additional Venezuela Sanctions
The European Union sanctioned seven members of Venezuelan’s security and intelligence forces for human rights violations, the European Council said in a Sept. 27 press release. The EU said it now has active Venezuelan sanctions imposed on 25 people. The sanctions include travel bans and asset freezes.
The announcement came two days after a senior State Department official criticized the EU’s slow response to imposing sanctions on Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro-led regime (see 1909240039). The EU said it is “ready to start work towards applying targeted measures for those members of the security forces involved in torture and other serious violations of human rights.”
