Tariffs on IT Products Decrease in Some 50 Countries on July 1

A new round of tariff cuts under the World Trade Organization’s expanded Information Technology Agreement take effect July 1, again lowering duties on information technology goods in some 50 countries around the world. For some countries, including the U.S., this third round marks the last set of tariff cuts under the expanded agreement, with all tariffs for covered goods now being set to zero. Other countries, particularly in the developing world, were given longer implementation periods, and tariff cuts stretch out until 2024.

Export Compliance Daily is providing links to the schedules of agreed-upon tariff cuts for several major U.S. trading partners. China is on July 1 dropping its maximum bound tariffs on a wide range of IT products, as part of its long implementation period that runs until 2021. On the other hand, the European Union, South Korea, Australia and Taiwan will have few tariffs on products subject to the agreement remaining after the July 1, 2019, round of cuts. Like in the U.S., the July 1 round of cuts will be the last for Canada, with tariffs on all remaining products subject to the agreement dropping to zero.
