EU to Consider Proposed Tariff Retaliation List of US Exports Until May 31

The European Union’s list of $20 billion in U.S. exports that could get hit with retaliatory tariffs is heavy on fishery and agricultural products and food, including wines and spirits, but also includes goods found elsewhere in the tariff schedule. That includes raw materials and chemicals, including coal, some medical products, plastics, travel goods and other bags and containers, cotton, tractors and games.

The list is out for public comment in the EU until May 31. The tariffs will only be imposed at the amount decided by the World Trade Organization arbitrator in the case, which revolves around U.S. subsidies for Boeing. The EU had alleged $12 billion in injury in its original WTO complaint.

The European Commission “is considering commercial policy measures in the form of the imposition of increased customs duties, including additional ad valorem duties of up to 100 percent, on certain products from the United States.” Subheadings covered by the potential tariffs fall under the following headings of the EU tariff schedule (not all subheadings within the headings listed before are on the list):
