EU Posts More Guidance on Customs Procedures After No-Deal Brexit
The European Union updated its Market Access Database to include “detailed information on rules adopted” by the United Kingdom “that would apply on UK imports from the EU in the event of a no-deal Brexit,” it said in an April 8 press release. “This is a part of the Commission’s efforts to help industry be prepared in case the United Kingdom leaves the European Union without a negotiated deal,” the release said.
The EU’s Market Access Database “provides detailed information on duties and taxes that apply to exports to a given country, as well as on import procedures and formalities that must be accomplished for customs clearance. The database contains information for 121 countries, and as of today, it also provides the same level of information for exports to the UK as for any other EU trade partners such as the US or China.”
The EU also recently issued several fact sheets detailing customs procedures in the event of a no-deal Brexit, according to a dedicated Brexit section of the Ireland Revenue website. Along with a guidance document on EU customs clearance and other trade regulations following a no-deal Brexit (see 1903140064), the EU has also posted guidance on transit procedures, exports, excise tax goods and value-added tax.
