Canadian Government Notices as of March 5

The government of Canada recently issued the following trade-related notices as of March 5 (some may also be given separate headlines):

• Canada's statement on U.S. steel and aluminum tariffs. Minister of Foreign Affairs Chrystia Freeland issued a statement March 1 stating that Canada, as “a key NORAD and NATO ally, and as the number one customer of American steel,” believes it is “entirely inappropriate to view any trade with Canada as a national security threat to the United States.” Coming in response to President Donald Trump's proposed global tariff on steel and aluminum exported from Canada to the United States, the statement went on to say, “Any restrictions would harm workers, the industry and manufacturers on both sides of the border,” and that the U.S. “has a $2 billion surplus in steel trade with Canada.”
• Certain gypsum board investigation schedule. The Canada Border Services Agency schedule for reinvestigating dumping and countervailing duties for certain gypsum board originating in or exported from the United States lists importer responses to CBSA's request for information due March 5, and exporter responses due March 21. The reinvestigation is scheduled to conclude June 29.
