CPSC Sets New Product Safety Standard for Children's Folding Chairs and Stools
The Consumer Product Safety Commission on Dec. 15 issued a final rule setting a new product safety standard for children’s folding chairs and stools. CPSC’s standard incorporates the latest ASTM voluntary industry standard for children’s chairs and stools, ASTM F2613-17a, without any changes except for applying that standard only to folding chairs and stools. According to CPSC’s final rule, the new standard applies to “seating furniture with a seat height of 15 inches or less with a rigid frame that is intended to be used as a support for the body, limbs, or feet of a child when sitting or resting in an upright or reclining position, can be folded for transport or storage, and may include a rocking base. The product is intended to be used by a single child who can get out of the chair unassisted,” CPSC said. The new standard takes effect June 15, 2018.
